Home Gym Essentials! Everything you need to get lean & muscular!
I’m a big gym goer, there’s nothing like the environment of everyone working in common space, with a common goal. Sometimes however, going to the gym is a major hassle, if you’ve ever lived out of town or simply too pressed to get the gym in opening hours. This is where the home gym comes in handy but with one problem – not everyone can afford thousands of dollars worth of equipment, nor have the space to keep the equipment. So we’ve created a list of the essentials, to get you home gym started without spending thousands or adding a new floor to your house.
Skipping RopeSmall on space, skipping is an excellent warm up and aerobic workout. Skipping is good for you lungs and staying light on your feet, not to mention that 10 minutes of skipping a day is aerobically equal (statistically) to 30 minutes of jogging. |

KettlebellsAn extremely flexible piece of equipment, the Russian kettlebell has been a favoured training tool for athletes (popular in the MMA scene) everywhere building not only lifting strength but explosive speed while getting the heart rate up for a cardiovascular workout. the best thing about having kettlebells at home is they are easy to store and quite small, with a little space required for a full workout. |
|
DumbellsAnother highly flexible tool for building muscle that is small on space. Just about every exercise designed to build muscle can be adapted and performed using dumbells. They are the absolute first priority for a home gym. |

Chin Up BarChin Ups are a must for anyone wanting to quickly build big arms, and a wide back. These bars simply attach to any doorway, then you can start performing chinup and pull ups at will. Works well with the P90X system (read more here). |
|
Medicine BallsA useful accessory for core strength and general conditioning, a Medicine Ball can be used in a variety of exercises to add an extra dynamic, making the movement more challenging to gain better results. |
|
BarbellsAll I need to say is The Big Three – the top 3 exercises for building muscle mass – The Squat, Deadlift and Bench Press, cannot be performed effectively without a barbell capable of holding some serious weight. The barbell is absolutely essential for anyone wanting to get muscles. |
|
Bench PressNot exaclty a small piece of equipment, but worth the space required. Essential for upper body strength and size, the bench press is the ultimate upper body building exercise, hitting the chest, arms and surrounding muscle groups. No home gym is complete without a bench press. |

Whey Protein IsolateOkay, not exactly ‘equipment’ but its a definite necessity for building muscle. After a good workout a protein shake combined with some healthy carbohydrates is a highly effective way to kick start your recovery (when taken within 30 minutes of workout completion). As a fitness enthusiast or weight lifter, your kitchen should never be without some form of protein powder to help aid in recovery. |
